Installation instructions for Rustic Mantel Shelves. (These instructions are the method we use; you and/or your contractor may have a
different method)
Materials provided: Mounting Bracket Materials needed: Screws to mount bracket to your wall; use proper screw type for drywall, brick, rock, etc.
Read all of the directions before installing the rustic shelves.
- Find position where you want to mount the rustic shelf over your fireplace. Mark center of wall over fireplace with a piece of non-stick tape or something that will not damage your wall. The center of
the mounting bracket is marked. Line up center mark on wall (with center mark on bracket) to mount the bracket.
Note: Once the shelf is installed on the bracket, the shelf will be 3/4"
higher than the top of the bracket.
- If wall is rock or brick, drill holes in mortar joint and use proper lag type fastener to mount board to wall. If wall is drywall, use a stud finder to locate stud in the wall; if no stud can be located,
use EZ anchor or comparable drywall mounting screw system. Drill though bracket face into your wall and mount bracket. Ensure your bracket is level after the first screw is set, then drill / fasten
remaining screws. USE A MINIMUM OF 3 SCREWS TO HOLD MOUNTING BRACKET TO YOUR WALL. When bracket is mounted correctly, it will look like the photo below.

- Dry-Fit rustic shelf on bracket. Position shelf horizontally where you would like it and mark wall where the back of the shelf (on the left or right side) touches the wall using a
non-stick piece of tape or something that will not damage your wall.
- If the back of the mantel sides does not sit flush on the wall (due to the wall slightly out of plumb), back off mounting bracket screws and shim top or bottom of bracket until you achieve a tighter fit.
- Once you are satisfied with your dry-fit location, put a few small spots of household caulk on the bracket arms.
- Lift mantel shelf up, keep slight upward pressure on mantel riding against the bottom of the bracket arms and push back until you have reached the wall. Ensure your left or
right edge is in line with your tape mark from step 3 and set mantel down on bracket arms. Let mantel sit until caulk sets and your finished.
- Note: You only need a small amount of caulk on top of the bracket arms. Using a small amount allows you to break the mantel loose easier if you ever needed to remove the mantel to
paint / repair your wall. Small finish nails can be used to tack into bracket but are not necessary.
