Rustic hewn shelves are made of kiln dried eastern white pine.  With shelf construction, using dimensional lumber, there is considerably less checking and splitting as compared to using solid beam material.  This type of construction also makes it possible to hewn the ends of the shelf, which can not be done on the cut off end grain of solid beams.  Shelves are 8 inches tall, or thick, while solid 101 beams are 5 1/2 inches tall or thick.  Standard depth of the shelf surface is the same as 101 solid beams, 11 1/2 inches deep.  Shelves are available up to 12 feet long, in 1/2 inch increments.

Shelves are available in two styles, STYLE 102 AND STYLE 103

Carvings  over 90 carvings are available for rustic hewn shelves.  You can have one center carving or as many as will fit the length of the shelf.
 

102 Rustic Hewn Shelf  has a flat face and ends.
The shelf face, ends and bottom surfaces are hewn.  The top of the shelf surface is smooth, with a hewn edge band.  This allows a smooth, flat surface for items to be placed on the top.
